You're talking about Wildfire and Haque? I didn't say they were model writers for me. I said they were exceptions to the rule that popular online writing platforms are lowbrow. Those two writers are relentlessly negative, as I said, whereas publications like Writers Blokke literally ban criticism.

You call it "doom porn." I agree that their writings are repetitive, especially Haque's. It's a business to them and they've found a niche--again, especially Haque. I'm talking also about popular writing, not "educated," as in academic writing. Obviously, that kind of writing is found in academic journals.

Frankly, I look around Medium in vain for model writing. I don't read much on Medium. The algorithm isn't doing me any favour in serving me stuff to read. Or maybe most writers here are smarter than me in that they know that competent, inspired, intellectually serious writing is going against the grain. If there's little audience for it, why produce it? I try to produce it mainly for my benefit, as I did when I wrote in the same way on my blog for years before I switched to Medium.

In my book recommendations at the end of the article below, I list some model writing for me, or at least some books that I found thought-provoking.
