You're saying religion allows for the pursuit of knowledge about itself? I can see how Buddhism would do so, but Christianity and Islam especially have some anti-intellectual tendencies. Both resist pagan pride and the pursuit of godlike creativity as sinful. All religions have some obscurantist tendencies, which can be emphasized for political reasons as the religious leaders deem necessary to support the flock's faith.

I'm not quite sure what you're driving at, though. Are you suggesting that science is somewhat religious?
