You're painting me as a naïve progressive, but I'm more cynical than that. I've written elsewhere about bullshit jobs in middle management, and how any concentration of power is corrupting, whether that's in corporations or petty bureaucracies. So it would be fairer to say that I'm ambivalent about democracy and big government. Of course, big government can be corrupt and counterproductive. But it can also solve big problems, and it's all we have to address the large problems created or ignored by a free market.
