You're not aware of the surge in political correctness on the left in the US? Just look at the novels that win prizes now, or the movies that win Oscars. These contests have been taken over by identity politics. I'm sure the awards were political decades ago too, in that African Americans, for example, were artificially kept out of the running. But now the judgments are matters of affirmative action, having little to do with an objective assessment of the works' merits.

The political correctness now is quite stifling. You can be castigated for "microaggressions," for telling the wrong joke, for asking someone out on a date in the wrong way, and so on. It's ludicrous and anti-social.
