Your point about retirement reminds me of my recent article on the fraud of capitalism which holds out the fading prospect of paradise in retirement.

You make an interesting point about digital nomadism. We should indeed keep an eye out for older lifestyles that recur in different guises. That brings to mind Morris Berman's "Twilight of Culture," in which he expects a return to a monastic movement as we try to preserve culture through a coming dark age. This dark age won't look like the medieval one, but it will amount to a levelling of high culture due to rampant capitalism, high-tech infantilization of consumers, and so on.

But indeed, new communities are forming, partly enabled ironically by the new technologies which might be designed instead to enslave us.
