You'd think so since they're supposed to be philosophy professors. It's a matter of grasping at straws, though, of snowing the reader under a mountain of weak arguments and pretending that together they make for a solid case.

It reminds me of those mortgage-backed securities that led to the Great Recession, according to that scene in the movie The Big Short. The bankers thought they could hide the worthlessness of the mortgages by combining them, which was supposed to magically cancel out the risk. It didn't work, and the economy tanked.
