You seem to be coming at this from a centrist standpoint. You'd like to reduce the damage done by culture wars, using commonsense. That's similar to what mainstream culture does: it appeals to the majority using broad notions that inevitably seem vulgar and insipid to connoisseurs.
We shouldn't lose sight of the inherent danger not just of cults but of all authentic artistic, spiritual, or philosophical visions. Those visions are potent and deadly-serious, due to their satirical force. Just look at the right-wing Orthodox Jews who are trying to terminate secular Israel by reshaping its government. The application of any cult's creed spells death to the mainstream, normie culture. The latter is like the oven mitt you use to grasp a burning hot pan that's been baking in the oven (the oven being unfiltered imagination and insight, in this analogy).
