You said we're writing for "writers." Did you mean to say we're writing for readers?

Clearly, when money or reputation is involved, we may be tempted not to be so authentic in whatever we're doing. That's the difference between doing a job and being yourself.

But I think the issue for writers is whether the muse's or the daemon's voice crowds out all the others as you're writing. When we're inspired in what we're writing, we're going with the flow and we're in the zone. In that case, we're not thinking about the audience or Medium's algorithms. Afterward, when we're editing, those concerns may dictate how we shape what we've written.

So the hard part is to build up that inner voice in the first place, and to follow our inspirations as writers. It should be relatively easy to be authentic in writing, because writing is already a private act. Publishing is another matter.
