You don't think Americans worship their military, holding soldiers as sacred and criticism of soldiers as taboo? Perhaps the most sacred spot, as in hallowed ground in the US is Area 51.
Americans' actual religion is largely about patriotism and nationalism, not Christianity. Christianity lost its power long ago. Real religion for the masses has to be politically powerful, because that's how you get everyone on the same page. The faith that's empowered in the US is some monstrous combination of consumerism and patriotic imperialism.
Your definition of "sacred" doesn't allow for the possibility of mistaken religious treatments. The military may not be "entitled" to reverence, but that doesn't mean it's not actually revered by millions of Americans. It's the same with shopping malls, football fields, movie studios, banks, and so on.
