Yet that classical liberal emphasis on personal responsibility counts against all technology since every piece of technology acts as a crutch that makes life easier for us so we start to take some things for granted. You could say that this growing arrogance of technologically empowered folks has caused us to endanger the planet's ability to support life, in which case this liberal principle implies that we should surrender all technology, including birth control and abortion, and go back to a Stone Age life of hunting and gathering in the wild.

Instead, this kind of principle should be taken as ceteris paribus, meaning this is only one principle that must be balanced against many others. When the libertarian seizes on individual freedom and responsibility as absolutes, he or she winds up with a deeply absurd and counterproductive worldview, as I show elsewhere:
