Yes, I see you're not happy with that point. But I think it's important to come to grips with the conditions of the civilized project. Is there a kind of civilization that's in perfect harmony with nature, and would such a way of life be sustainable for our population? I'm not saying modern economic growth and consumerism are beyond reproach. Our way of life may indeed be unsustainable and greedy. But our values should be based on an understanding of the facts, not on a romanticizing of nature or a theological fantasy. That's the basis of secular humanism, at any rate.
