Yes, but Israel isn't a colonizer. Israel didn't take over the whole Middle East, even though it probably could have done so, especially with American backing. Israel's tiny, which isn't what we'd expect if they were operating solely on Darwinian principles.

I take your point about not wanting to let the terrorists win in advance. But that's where Israel shares some blame because it did face that choice at the outset. It chose to destroy Hamas, knowing that that would destroy Gaza and provoke hostility to Jews around the world. If Israel had no other way of dealing with its adversaries, then fine, there would have been no choice. But I presented an alternative. By targeting only Hamas's leaders and far larger threat of Iran's nuclear infrastructure, Israel could have kept the moral high ground, smartly using the terrorist attack as a pretext to deal with the elephant in the room or the true thorn in Israel's side (Iran).
