Yes, academics love to categorize, but you're getting hung up on labels. The relevant question that falls out this discussion of my critique of the secular humanist's manifestos is how your philosophy differs from the one presented in those manifestos. You said, roughly, that those manifestos are red herrings. But if there's much overlap between them and your philosophy, regardless of what you call it, that would undermine your criticism.

So are you nontheistic? Are you humanistic, in the sense that you're optimistic about the prospects of human progress via liberalism (capitalism and democracy), scientific rationalism, the rule of law, and an existential sense of our common predicament in a godless universe?

Where exactly do you think most liberal atheists in developed societies disagree with the latest manifesto?
