Yeah, you’re just talking past me now and going ad hominem.

I’m Canadian, so I didn’t choose Sanders.

I didn’t say I’m entirely agnostic about the traditional political issues. I just don’t care that much about them. I’m not a policy maker. Of course, the Scandinavians have high taxes, but look at what they get for them in the Nordic model: universal healthcare, free education, public pensions, low corruption, free trade (undistorted by monopolies, lobbyists, or corrupt politicians), strong workers rights, the world’s highest happiness levels, etc. (See the link below.)

The US currently has much lower taxes and as a result, many Americans go into debt to pay for healthcare and education, and there’s relatively low upward mobility because their market is rigged against them.

I understand that as a patriotic American you feel obliged to sneer at all foreign systems. I doubt anything like the Nordic model would currently work in the US at the federal level, although Americans used to have the New Deal. There are benefits and drawbacks of any political system, and as I said, I’m not so interested in those policy questions.

I’m quite libertarian, for example, when it comes to free speech and expression in the arts, so there I agree with many Americans (and am virulently opposed to Puritanical censorship on dubious, “Christian” grounds).

I understand that the Trump supporters are fighting back against the more cosmopolitan and intellectually sophisticated culture that’s attempting to bury them. That doesn’t mean Trumpian culture deserves to survive.

Indeed, money is mobile, but governments are free to set policies to punish or to reward different behaviours. Countries with low taxes invite certain kinds of business that have advantages and disadvantages. The big businesses that are free to offshore their billions in profits are the ones that bankrupt small businesses, making the market less competitive and giving workers less bargaining power. As a result, we get the gig economy with people willing to work for a fiver and having to go into debt even to pay for all that cheap Chinese merchandise. And to handle their depression, many Americans get addicted to opioids and turn to Hail Marys like Trump.

You associate me with woke, white progressives. Nothing could be further from the truth. I’ve written numerous articles attacking wokesters for being totalitarian, toxically feminine, politically incompetent sissies. Links below.

It seems you take a shoot first, ask questions later approach, which I suppose might be useful for a soldier.
