Would you say, then, that Catholicism does work with neoliberalism and ought to do so, that the two aren't in conflict and needn't be? It's an intriguing, potentially Straussian or cynical thesis which might make for a fruitful dialogue. Certainly, the Church makes a show of repudiating some liberal aspects of consumerism.

I'm also still not sure "centrist" is the right word for the institutional power you're talking about in those cases. Of course, powerful players can moderate the discourse and exclude "extreme" voices. But "centrist" becomes a euphemism. I wrote about this in the context of liberalism vs conservatism and the political "spectrum."
