Why do wealthy people keep their money if they don't love it? That was Jesus's test: Sell all your possessions to prove you love God more than your wealth and luxuries. And the wealthy man was sad because he had much wealth.
By contrast, poor people have little to sell, so they can't love what they don't have. If they want to be rich, they love the idea or the fantasy of wealth, not the reality of riches they lack. That fantasy could be a defense mechanism to enable the poor to cope with their struggles. And that fantasy does far less damage than the rich person's hoarding of real wealth that could feed the starving or heal the sick.
Do you really think Jesus, who overturned the tables of the money changers, would defend American capitalism? "Poverty pimp" is ad hominem, and the prosperity gospel twists the New Testament beyond recognition. Americanized Christianity is a bastardization.
