What's perhaps most objectionable about monotheism is its preoccupation with having the right beliefs. It all operates on the level of thought control, which is supposed to lead to an inner transformation (as Christ comes to live inside the believer, or whatever). That's all a garbled form of Paul's quasi-Gnosticism. The purpose behind Christian or Islamic thought control is much more clearly political or tribal than spiritual or existentially valid.
