What's modern is the idolizing of reason, as in positivism, for example, or the Democrat's trust in technocracy which proved naïve compared to Trump's sophism.

Anyway, I'm not opposed to reason, but I don't think reason alone will preserve us. I temper secular humanism with pragmatism, existentialism, cosmicism, and neo-Kantian, semi-postmodern epistemology,
