Well, Woody Allen popularized the stereotype of the self-loathing Jew. It's hard to criticize Judaism because you feel like you're kicking that population when they're down. It feels better to punch up. For that reason, Jews might get a pass for their nonsense. Secular liberal rabbis seem more like politicians than theologians. There are some amusing scenes of rabbis in the Coen brothers' movie A Serious Man.
