Well, we may try to convince others precisely to convince ourselves, since we might fallaciously appeal to popularity: if we can get others to agree with what we think, we must be on to something because it's unlikely so many people could be fooled.
Also, even if we don't actively try to convince others, the abstract question would remain whether our beliefs are justified. Someone could have faulty beliefs even though no one's bothered to demonstrate that that's so.
