Well, that depends on what you think organized religions are for. I propose a more cynical view in relation to their handling of the psychedelic basis of transformational religious experiences. If religions function as the opiate of the masses, as Marx said, their purpose isn't just to stabilize a community; rather, they distract their members from their creative potential, with weak sauce (exoteric literalism).
