Well summarized. Indeed, I'm just naturalizing some aspects of religion here. Gnosticism especially focusses on self-deception and false consciousness, including in the creation of nature. But I'm not sure I'd want to take the pantheism I've worked out elsewhere in quite that direction. Did nature literally play with or deceive itself in generating life? I'd rather think of the wilderness as mindless, unconscious, and zombie-like. At least, that's how it seems from the scientific standpoint of objectification. And it's that natural monstrousness that motivates the anomaly of personhood to rebel with what we call "civilized progress."
