Well, scientists are working on all fronts. And even if they ended up explaining the human mind, the applications would be another matter. There's lots of knowledge out there that we ignore or rationalize away. We're pretty willful and few people even read anymore. I'm not sure we should be looking to intellectuals or to scientific knowledge to save us from our self-destructive impulses. What we might need instead is a viable, atheistic religious perspective to guide us. Powerful religious fictions are more likely to redirect us than would dry academic arguments and explanations.
