Well said. And don't forget the numerous horror movies that stem from Catholic mythology, such as the exorcism movies. Religion capitalizes on two human impulses: fear and love. Somehow, God's supposed to be both terrifying and loving. We're supposed to fear God and to regard him as a loving parent. And that incoherence calls for faith to paper over the contradictions. Reading the scriptures as horror fictions for entertainment and edification would make more sense than taking them as the final word on everything.
