Well, it's philosophy rather than religion that introduced me to the potential for existential anxiety. Then again, I went into philosophy in the first place because of the character I already had. Maybe it's a question of character, then, and some folks just have a harder time caring about the cosmic context. Alternatively, maybe it takes an extreme type of character to point out what the rest of the flock is missing. So these psychological matters are ambiguous.

I don't really talk about the need for an atheistic "faith" exactly. More like atheistic honour or a viable secular culture that might make for a more ideal social framework. It's just a thought experiment.

Of course, atheism is true regardless, but that's not the point. How should atheists live? Is there an ideal atheistic society?
