Well, I'm still working out this idea of the self as a story (implied by the scenes of our life or by the dramatic logic that ties together our bundle of mental states). But I don't think it need be hopeless. I'm saying that even if there's no immaterial spirit, as in a ghost that possesses our body, we might still have this immaterial aspect.
