Well, I think there's more than one way to give the bird to nature. Roughly, there's the Eastern way, with the right hand, as it were (asceticism or Buddhism's middle way), and there's the Western one with the left hand (Faustian, Luciferian, technoscientific progress in building an artificial alternative to the wilderness). I'm interested in both ways.

There's a difference between saying a map's wrong and saying it's outdated. If the situation changes, the old map no longer applies. Are you saying postmodern relativism and the standard of truthiness have replaced modern objectivity and the call for empirical adequacy?

I'd agree that the modern metanarratives have largely undermined themselves. That includes how liberalism is facing populist backlashes in lots of developed countries. The task, then, is to map the new terrain, and to imagine a new set of ideals that help us navigate it. I suppose that's what I'm trying to do with my writing.
