Well, I assume as much, judging from Buddhism's long history. Would Buddhism have lasted so long if it were as fraudulent as a wacky cult? Buddhism isn't as imperial as Christianity or Islam.
Also, cognitive behavioural therapy shows that thought patterns can be modified. There's nothing supernatural about Buddhism's basic therapy: gain some existential perspective, stop being so self-centered, and don't take your intuitive conceptions for granted. The result should be a lack of disappointment due to a better, less anthropocentric alignment with reality. It's a case of happiness through reality-based amorality.
