We'd have to deal individually with the different cases of esoteric theism, but the overall problem seems clear. The more sophisticated and knowledgeable the esoteric theists are about their religion, the more effectively atheistic their worldview, and thus the more cynical and patronizing they must be towards exoteric theists. At least, that's my hypothesis.
