We can think of naturalization as a relative thing. Compared to scientific objectification, shamanic animism wasn't naturalistic because shamans personified the psychedelic states, or they took that presentation at face value, whereas scientists depersonlize the forces of nature. But compared to the abstract theology of organized religions, shamanism might be more grounded.
