Variety is fine, and I think it's healthy to struggle, at least, with reconciling yourself to some unpleasant truths. Having a mental condition might make you an exception, but there's a common reason why most people prefer to consume optimistic infotainment rather than to embark on unwavering philosophical explorations of the facts. It's because the latter threatens people's happiness. That's the mental condition we'd prefer to keep. We don't want to be disturbed, especially when we're relaxing after work or while on break.

So it's not just a question of harmless variety or balance. There are systematic factors at work here shaping the contents of cyberspace and digital media. But this is how it's always been. Philosophy is typically reserved for intellectual elites, because the masses prefer their pablum, their bread and circuses.

He who has ears to ear, let him hear. The rest will naturally pass by--or be caught somewhere in the middle, with half an ear to catch whispers of the truth every now and then.
