Understanding ancient history is certainly conjectural, but contrary to postmodernists, it's not all up in the air and a series of arbitrary moves in a bid for dominance. Women's body type evolved to care for infants, men's to be faster and stronger. (Women needed to endure the ordeal of surviving while being pregnant in the wild, and protecting suckling infants.)

What's the evolutionary explanation of that asymmetry? Is it that men and women are equally well suited to any task? In a way, yes, but only because of our mental and social abilities to evolve beyond our different body types. That equality is realized by transhuman technological empowerment, which would offset the natural division of labour.
