Tribalism is certainly a factor in American politics. I wouldn’t say liberals and conservatives are equally bad or delusional, though. Your point is that both sides ignore natural reality, but liberal ideology is more naturalistic and science-friendly than conservatism.

In practice, mind you, conservative policies end up being more naturalistic, since conservative ideals or goals are only thin disguises for social Darwinism. In my view, conservative ideologies (both secular and religious) are rationalizations of dominance hierarchies and of the psychopathy that forms at the top of that food chain, due to the concentration of power. Thus, Republicans increasingly wear their psychopathy on their sleeves (George W. Bush, Sarah Palin, Mitch McConnell, Donald Trump, almost everyone at Fox News).

For example, Democrats are much more likely to embrace the values and lessons of a show like Cosmos, whereas Republicans would scoff at secular humanism and science fiction. In so far as Republicans wouldn’t, their worldview would be deeply incoherent.

What value system would you say amounts to a responsible way of accounting for the natural cycles you emphasize? Would that value system lean towards liberalism or conservatism or towards something else entirely?
