To me it's unsettling to think that intellectual curiosity can take two people in opposite directions, depending on their different upbringings, social environment, personal predilections, and so on. It's humbling to realize that even opposite extremists are dealing with the same existential condition of how to make sense of the life into which they're thrown, as Heidegger put it.
