Those rural conservatives who don't think they're prejudiced but clearly are are indeed a big problem. I'm going to be writing another article soon on the Republican base. It's interesting to ponder the motives and the causes of Republican fantasies and tribalism.

One clue is that there's comparable craziness on the left, in the cases of Twitter and cancel culture, but it's not as extreme or as politically empowered as right-wing mania. It's as though a virus has struck both parties, but one has greater, yet still imperfect immunity to it. Social media are major causes of this tribal, trolling craziness.
