Those are my suspicions too. The thought I was grappling with is what a dark age would look like from within, given that the "darkness" is often relative. Could such darkness seem like progress (the freedom of surfing the internet, for instance)? Could we convince ourselves that our failures as consumers are really triumphs, and only a cultural rebirth would provide our descendants the objectivity to tell the true tale of where we stood?
