This is the secular humanist side of it, which is in tension with cosmicist naturalism. I say humanism is a kind of tragic heroism, so it depends on what's emphasized, the heroic/hubristic intentions, or the tragic outcome (the inevitable triumph of nature's wildness). Both seem to me true, so I agree that, short of the most farfetched, sci-fi, transhumanist scenario, life won't transcend nature. It's a fantastic ideal that drives us to attempt to progress.
