This is indeed a good point that counts against conservatism in general. It's a commonplace that power corrupts, so monarchies, plutocracies, seem dictatorships seem quite foolish.

Democracies, too, have their downside, though, and it's curious how the equalizing effects of democracy are counteracted or even overrun by capitalism's inequalities.
