This idea of merging with a wave as a surfer takes us to the prospect of transhumanism, of merging with all of nature, not just a part we can tame with a tool (a surfboard). We can treat part of nature as a vehicle, so using it becomes second nature to us. We do this with our bodies, of course, but also with our cars and various flow states. But to merge with nature in general would require that we dehumanize ourselves, losing our delusions so we accept nature's inhumanity. There's no human merging with inhuman nature, so egoism would have to be dissolved, in which case our transhuman descendants would be like those sinister superhuman aliens we see in science fiction movies.
