This article is the start of a new series I'm writing of shorter, unfiltered, rant-like, prose-poetic articles. So I'm playing a little fast and loose here to get across a feeling.
"Lie" is a strong, sometimes overused word, but there are also lies of omission. And I'm not sure how far off lying is if we're including self-deception. Very often we know better, but we ignore our conscience, our "higher" inclinations, and our reasoning power because, of course, we're self-conflicted creatures. At least some of that self-deception isn't exactly innocent.
