They say the devil can quote scripture for his purpose. It's silly how Hollywood movies often depict the devil as just a monstrous force of evil with no reason on his side. Clearly the Christian myth is of a freedom fighter rebelling against a tyranny, which makes the devil a Promethean hero of humanism. That's the Gnostic reading anyway.

The dialogue is meant to read like a platonic one combined with Gnostic subversion.
