There's certainly that conflict between Western and Eastern philosophical traditions. Humility would indeed be part of the existential, cosmic perspective, I'd say. But I think mystics can take this too far or can muddy the waters with the talk of all apparent forms as being "illusory" compared to the grand unity. That obfuscates the fact that history can proceed in different ways, such as progressive or stagnant ones. What should we work collectively to achieve? Should we be so humble that we end up doing nothing, living in a cave and wasting life?
