There's a big difference between the exoteric god of the folk and the philosopher's or mystic's abstract ground of being. Certainly, the former is much more intuitive than the latter, according to Daniel Dennett's point about how religion emerges from the intentional stance (from our instinct for socialization and mind-reading).

It's just a case of an invisible friend. So when Christians say they're talking to Jesus, that's a disgraceful relapse into the childish and thus eminently intuitive frame of mind which freely projects mental properties onto anything to practice socializing, and to avoid confronting nature's alienness and absurdity.
