There were excesses on both sides before 2015, namely political correctness and the Tea Party. But the earlier excesses weren't yet full-blown mainstream cults. The Tea Party was an astroturfed political movement to purify the Republican Party. But Trump took over the Party and turned it into a bona fide cult of personality.
Wokeness is now also more than just political correctness. It's a bizarre left-wing cult that's gone viral. It includes cancel culture, safe spaces, the fragility of Gen Z, and so on, as you said.
I'm just trying to understand how these cults fit into the broader social scene. Specifically, I think they're toxically masculine and feminine offshoots of infantilizing, social-media-charged consumerism.
