There may be good realist, "conservative" reasons for not interfering much with powerful players or with systemic social inequalities, but those reasons would surely conflict with the American mythos. So again, we'd have the temple with its secrets, as it were, and a crass clown like Trump who's giving the game away. Those realist reasons should be kept secret, lest the public loses faith in its civic religion. Or maybe that disenchantment has already happened in the US.
