There are probably as many similarities as differences. We expect secular rather than supernatural progress. What's mainly different is our technological environment, which has sped up progress, so that the middle class has become as pampered and infantilized as the ancient ruling class. We expect progress in all aspects of life, and we expect it to happen now.
