There are many facets of it, to be sure. I think the core of it is a clash between subjective and objective perspectives, as Thomas Nagel said in The VIew from Nowhere. We try to fix the cosmos to replace its indifference and amorality with meaning and purpose. We try to undo the clash by usurping nature's creativity.
