There are degrees of corporate capture, though. Republicans are brazen in their sabotaging of the country's founding secular humanistic principles, so it's always worse in the long run when they're in charge of any of the branches of government. But as another commenter said, there's no effective leftist movement in the US because the Democrats have been pulled too far to the right by Clintonian centrism.
