The word in the Bible is "fear." But if you're talking about Islam, the Quran's emphasis on the threat of hellfire provides a more straightforward reason to fear God. Gratitude to God for creating everything isn't the same thing as fear. Fear of God is due to the deity's implicit madness in monotheistic religions. If God is naturally tyrannical (due to the corruption from being all-powerful), we should fear God for the same reason that peasants would fear their king or dictator.
