The two are indeed currently working together, but they're not equivalent. The West exploits nature out of greed to suit capitalism, whereas I'm talking about existentially, quasi-religiously motivated exploitation of nature. Were we to appreciate the sacredness of life in the wilderness, we'd be inclined to spread life in a sustainable way, devoting all our resources to the transhuman endeavour. By contrast, capitalists are unenlightened in seeking short-term, selfish gains.
